Women Can 2019 Launched on Monday 10th Sept
The was a palpable buzz in the IP Offices Ltd rooms on Monday night and smiles that held fast for 2 hours as the plans for Women Can 2019 were unveiled.
Inspirational event creator Jo Earlam, having a well- earned sabbatical, sat by like a proud mum watching her children take new steps and directions whilst Race Director Pauline Beare and Peg Wiseman ensure the continuation of the event.
Stepping in for the third year sponsors IP Office Ltd have committed themselves to an increasingly hands on role and their support is amazing!
Diane Collett, IP Office Ltd Network Service Director, not only supports the event but plans to run the half challenge for the third year and always brings friends and family along.
Allie Alton their Network Services Administrator applied her talents to registration last year and has a job for life!
A third year has enabled the team to develop with a new exciting format with the full backing of Jo.
So what’s new for 2019
Renamed: Women Can Challenges 2019
3 challenge routes: Full marathon, Half challenge and Quarter challenge
3 different start venues with simultaneous start time of 9 am
One fantastic finish in the beautiful town of Sidmouth on Devon’s Jurassic Coast
Full challenge start and finish in Sidmouth with a new first half route
This year’s theme: Connecting women to the outdoors
New price structure with the early bird Quarter Challenge price starting at just £15
Full Challenge still has the quality T shirt but available to buy for the other challenges.
Why the changes?
We listened and this is what we heard?
‘We'd all like to run together rather than a relay’
‘I can’t find a partner or team’
‘It’s too expensive if you just run 10k’
‘I’d prefer to pay less and not have the T’
‘I’d like to watch my runner come in, not drive around the countryside’
We’ve also kept many things the same.
The same celebration of the fact that Women Can
The same care and attention to the experience of every runner
The same enthusiastic marshals
The same 9 hour cut off and this applies to all three challenges
The same amazing welcome at the finish
The same quality medal
A Devon cream tea for every finisher and a goody bag we hope you’ll want.
Refreshments and music at Sidmouth Rugby Club finish venue for spectators and families
Also the same for 2019 is the level of interest and support from our other partners of the last 2 years.
261 Fearless. Katheryn Switzer’s charity continues to promote our event and they brought us the International flavour last year.
LED continue to provide our leaflets promoting the event through their leisure centres and supporting our training teams from January
Active Devon promoting the event and linking women to the outdoors
Basking in the delight of the launch event were our nominated charity partners.
Exeter’s FORCE is about to open an outreach project in Honiton bringing them into the heart of our event area. Trina Lake from Force volunteered last year and loved the event.
South West coast Path Association celebrated their 40 years in 2018 and as all three challenges run on one of the most beautiful sections of the coast path we felt we should involve and reward their amazing work protecting and enhancing our area.
Genevieve Hinchliff and Becky Millington from the SWCP were so enthused by the atmosphere that we’re awaiting their entries to the event!
We couldn’t resist ending this report with the words of Lisa Jackson, Celebrity backmarker and running author, writing about last years’ experience.
‘The WCM is one you’ll never forget. Yes it’s got hills the size of mountains, puddles the size of lakes and plenty of gnarly forest tracks just waiting to trip the unwary, but it’s also got some of the world’s smiliest marshals, some of the planet’s most spectacular scenery and an after party with a live band to tempt you to dance away your blisters. It’s not an easy course but the organisers welcome one and all and if you’re up for a challenge this should definitely be on your bucket list.’
‘We hope we have put a smile on your faces too and inspired you to believe You Can and enter the Women Can Challenges 2019’
Walk, Jog or run. On your own or with your friends. Because ‘Women Can’
